An artisanal tannery and eco-responsible leather
The eco-responsible approach of Radermecker Tannery
Our eco-responsible approach is one of the primary objectives of Radermecker Tannery and this is achieved by purchasing its leather from targeted farms, working it in a natural way with a modernised production tool during our move in 2020 and by treating its waste in an organic way.
Our leathers are purchased from targeted farms
We select the raw hides in Europe, mainly France and Germany. In search of thickness and robustness, we turn to cattle raised in the mountain pastures. They live the seasons, are in the heights and greenery. This gives them the fibre density necessary for the quality of our finished leathers. This type of cattle is far from industrial breeding, but rather in responsible farming in order to meet these skin quality criteria. We work with heavy beef and bulls. Bovine with a very long life span.
Our hides come directly from farms for beef production. Leather is therefore a recycled and recovered waste product. We can say that it is the oldest recycling process.
Our leathers are vegetable tannedThe tannins are of vegetable origin, which makes them more environmentally friendly. They are mostly of vegetable origin. pure aniline finish They are mostly vegetable-based, avoiding pigmentations that consume fossil fuel products (petroleum).
Our modernised production tool
In 2020, all our production facilities were modernised and redesigned in an eco-responsible manner:
- New electrical installation and new boiler: modern installations that considerably reduce our energy consumption.
- Anew finishing machine with a selective spraying system that allows us to have no loss of product to the environment, but also to reduce the amount of product used in our finishing. This machine is also equipped with a self-cleaning water and anti-pollution system.
- Our new sewage treatment plant, for the treatment of waste water, which has a biological process. Indeed, thanks to this treatment plant, we create so-called "biological" sludge that we can revalue with the farmers for the spreading of the fields.
