Full leather grain

Full grain leather is a leather that has kept its upper surface intact. It retains the natural grain and all the characteristics of the skin (softness, hold, resistance), including roughness such as natural wrinkles, small scars or healed scratches.

First of all, the grain is the structure of the dermis where the hairs are implanted, so it is the upper layer of the animal's skin. It is the area of the skin with the highest density of fibre.

What are the advantages of full grain leather?

  • The dense fibres make the full grain leather more resistant and durable.
  • Because the natural pores of the skin are intact, full-grain leather is more breathable than other lower skin layers.
  • The natural grain and roughness of the full grain leather make each product unique.
  • The full grain leather will, over time, develop a unique, even patina.

What is the difference between full grain and corrected grain leather?

Corrected grain leather undergoes a great deal of sanding in order to mask the roughness of the hide and thus make its surface uniform. Because of the sanding, the leather is thinner and its durability, breathability and durability will be reduced.

All Radermecker saddle leathers are full grain leathers.
